Fuel-Saving Technology in Mercedes-Benz
What is the Mercedes-Benz ECO-START® Feature?
By now, most of us are aware of what Mercedes-Benz does when it comes to innovating the automobile. Sure, they may be responsible for the first vehicle ever, but even over 130 years later, they’re still trying to improve it. That includes the ECO-START® feature which comes standard in many models. So what is the Mercedes-Benz ECO-START® feature? Find out below!
How does it work?
The ECO-START® feature is intended to help you save money at the pump by turning the vehicle off when it’s not being used. If you’re parked in your driveway with the vehicle idling or in stop-and-go traffic, chances are you’re burning more fuel than you need to. The ECO-START® feature will automatically turn the engine off until you resume driving. While subtle, these instances will add up over time. The ECO-START® feature works so smoothly you won’t even notice the engine is turned off, as it will turn right back on again once you release the brakes or put it into drive.
Can you turn the ECO-START® feature off?
You’re advised to keep the feature engaged due to the way it saves you money and gas, but if you want to turn it off there’s a simple way to do so. ECO-START® only works when the vehicle is in E-mode, so if you disengage it in the center console you’ll deactivate the ECO-START® feature. If you want to continue having the ECO-START® feature deactivated, you’ll have to do this each time you turn your car on.
It’s features like ECO-START® that keep Mercedes-Benz ahead of their competitors. There’s no reason to add extra fuel costs (not to mention extra emissions) to your budget, so keep it activated and watch the savings pile up!
